We have access to 7 spectacular reef systems in the Capricorn Bunker Group with literally hundreds of dive sites in pristine condition. Visiblity is consistently good due to their distance from the coastline and river outflows. These can be visited on day trips from 1770 or explored extensively on our liveaboard trips.
Lady Musgrave Island
This island has the largest, navigable lagoon on the entire reef covering an area of 3000 acres and features world class dive sites with coral gardens on the northern side and a drop off on the southern side. We regularly see schools of pelagic fish, mantas, turtles, reef sharks, rays, sea snakes, moray eels and a multitude of reef fish. Humpback whales are sighted in the winter.
Fitzroy Reef
Scuba paradise! This 2000 acre lagoon boasts the most diverse and colourful range of 5000 year old coral formations on the reef. There are 2500 species of fish and a population of 1,000 turtles. The coral walls, caves and swim-thrus are home to painted sweetlip, fuseliers, trevally, coral cod, red emperor, coral trout and sargeant majors with huge rays and big fish everywhere.
Hoskyn Island
The north west corner has a series of bommies which turn into trenches leading into the reef. There are extensive amounts of colourful plate coral here and reef sharks are quite common in this area. A very pretty site full of reef fishes with large numbers of juvenile and adult angelfish and surgeonfish to be found in the trenches.
Fairfax Island
There is some incredible diving on the northern side with pinnacles in 17 metres of water, riddled with caves sheltering tasselled wobbegongs and moray eels. Small baitfish congregate attracting trevally, coral trout, rainbow runner and lionfish. Shovelnose rays, mantas, stingrays, reef sharks and leopard sharks are all usually roaming past.
Boult Reef
This reef has some great drift dives along the western edge with a 32 metre drop off known
for its pelagic fishes and reef sharks. North Cove is a great 10 metre shallow dive with a group of bommies protecting the cove. Perfect for night and afternoon dives, there are regular sightings of sea turtles feeding amongst the coral.
Lamont Reef
There are some great wall dives here running along the edge of the reef. Starting in 10 metres and dropping down to just over 30 metres, they feature many caves and small tunnels.
Expect to see large turtles, coral trout, red emporer,sea snakes and fantastic colourful coral formations.
Llewellyn Reef
Located between Fitzroy and Boult Reefs, this area features brilliant wall and drift dives along the outer edges with many caves and swim-thrus. The diving here is spectacular with great examples of coral formations down to the sandy bottom. The marine life is plentiful with massive amounts of reef fish and pelagics along the wall.
